Police arrest two for break-in at Glenelg business

Two teens been arrested following a break-in at Glenelg early this morning.

Just before midnight on Saturday 30 December police responded to reports of an alarm at a Jetty Road business.

Witnesses reported seeing a youth smash the front of the business with a scooter and steal a number of items.

The youth then fled the scene with a second suspect chased by the witness.

When police arrived, they located and arrested a 16-year-old boy and on searching him, discovered a large knife hidden in his clothing.

The second suspect fled the scene.

During the arrest the boy assaulted two police officers.

A short time later when police were still at the scene the second suspect has returned to the business. Police searched the teenage girl and located items stolen from the store and a knife hidden in her clothing.

And while she was being arrested, assaulted four police officers by kicking and biting them, resulting in two members being treated in hospital for their injuries.

Following enquires police attended at a unit on Colley Terrace and searched the premises. They there located further items stolen from the business.

The 16-year-old boy and girl from Kanmantoo have been charged with aggravated serious criminal trespass, theft, carry offensive weapon, assault emergency worker x 2 (boy) and assault emergency worker x 4 (girl).

They have been bailed to attend Adelaide Youth Court on 22 February 2024.

The police officers assaulted by the pair have since been released from hospital, having been treated for minor injuries.
