Gilgandra Shire Council (Council) has endorsed the Gil Recreation Centre (GRC) Masterplan at its October Ordinary Meeting, marking a new milestone in the project's planning and progression of concept and detailed design. The endorsed Masterplan is now available for the public to view.

Following this milestone, Council is inviting community members and residents to attend an upcoming Community Information Session to hear the latest project update, view the Masterplan and Concept Designs, and learn more about what is proposed.

The session will be held on:

  • Wednesday, 18 November
  • 5:15pm to 6.00pm
  • GIL Library Hub

Mayor Nick White encourages community members and residents to view the Masterplan and register their questions ahead of the upcoming Community Information Session.

"We're at an exciting stage of this project with the Masterplan now available, and we welcome questions from the community. The GRC is a significant intergenerational investment for Gilgandra, providing sporting, recreational, youth spaces and community facilities designed to serve our community and surrounding regions for years to come."

"We invite everyone to come along to this session. As your Councillors, we welcome the opportunity to answer your questions, provide an update on what is proposed in the Masterplan and explain the considerations behind the decisions made," Mayor White said.

The session will also be live streamed via Council's YouTube for anyone who is unable to attend in person.

General Manager, Kathryn Larkin highlighted the extensive preparatory work undertaken to progress the project into concept and detailed design.

"This milestone follows extensive planning and investigation, including site due diligence studies, stakeholder consultation, quantity surveying, analysis of the project budget and operational implications, and identification of potential synergies between each of the project elements and services."

Mrs Larkin thanked the Hunter Park Precinct Stakeholder Group and user groups for their ongoing input and contributions, which have helped inform key focus areas of the Masterplan.

"We've received valuable feedback from the Stakeholder Group and user groups of the GRC. Their knowledge of current facility uses, including participation numbers, ideas and suggestions have helped inform the planning process, and I thank everyone who has taken the time to contribute," said Mrs Larkin.

Adding,

"After months of planning, analysis, budgeting and consideration of the project's ongoing operational requirements, we're pleased to have a Masterplan and concept designs to present to the community. We look forward to continuing engagement as the project progresses, keeping residents informed, connected and up to date will remain an important part of the process," said Mrs Larkin.

The project will now continue detailed design, with tenders expected to be advertised in early 2027.
