20 New Social And Affordable Homes Underway At Westbury

Tasmanian Government

Construction is underway on 20 new social and affordable homes at Westbury, helping increase housing supply in the North and providing more Tasmanians with a place to call home.

The $8.6 million development is being jointly funded by the Tasmanian and Australian Governments through Round 2 of the Housing Australia Future Fund (HAFF).

The site is well-located behind 10 existing Homes Tasmania units.

Built by Vos Construction and Joinery, the development will feature single-storey, two-bedroom units designed for comfort, safety, accessibility and energy efficiency.

The homes will meet the Silver level of the Livable Housing Design Guidelines and a 7-star energy rating will help reduce heating and cooling needs, making homes more comfortable while helping residents manage energy costs and reducing environmental impacts.

The project is part of ongoing work to deliver more infill housing to increase the supply of contemporary, well-designed homes in locations already connected to local services, infrastructure and community facilities.

The Housing Australia Future Fund is making a significant contribution to increasing social and affordable housing across Tasmania, with a commitment for funding to support at least 1,200 new homes across the State.

Through HAFF Round 2, Homes Tasmania secured funding contributing to 149 social homes across eight projects statewide.

This is supporting the Tasmanian Government's commitment to deliver 10,000 social and affordable homes by 2032.

These 20 new homes will help deliver more housing choice in the region and support the growing local community.

Construction began in August 2026, with the units expected to be completed and ready for residents late next year.
