Eurobodalla Council are upgrading Preddys Wharf to give boaters, paddlers and Marine Rescue safe and easy access to the Moruya River, with more berthing and more space around the ramp.
The new setup will include a 40-metre L-shaped floating pontoon, a dedicated kayak-launch platform, and a relocated gangway providing gently sloped access from the car park. The lighting will be improved, uneven paving replaced, and grab rails installed along the pontoon for easier boarding.
Marine Rescue and the Eurobodalla Fishing and Boating Network helped navigate the design, with their feedback incorporated into the final plans. Marine Rescue will have a clearly defined berth at the far end of the new pontoon, with power and water supplied to its mooring.
Council's acting director of infrastructure Tom Franzen said there would be some short-term pain before improvements come aboard.
"Crews will work 'til mid-December to get the boat ramp built before Christmas. Tools go down for the summer school holidays with the ramp, wharf and fish-cleaning table all open for the holiday rush," Mr Franzen said
"Work resumes in February and continues through March, when the old wharf will be demolished and the new floating pontoon installed.
"The boat ramp, wharf and fish-cleaning table will close again during this stage, while the fishing platform and public toilets remain open. Marine Rescue will continue to operate."
While Preddys Wharf is closed, boaters and fishers can use the facilities at Riverside Park in Moruya or at Brierleys boat ramp near the airport. Council advises that weather, river conditions and other unforeseen circumstances may affect the work schedule.
