Police arrest two for drugs and deprivation of liberty in Alice Springs

Two men who are alleged to have held a man against his will and were found in possession of traffickable quantities of methamphetamine, MDMA and heroin were arrested and charged in Alice Springs yesterday.

The pair, aged 38 and 34-years-old are alleged to have detained and threatened a 34-year-old man at a premises in Elder Street early last month.

It will be further alleged the man was threatened and forced to sign over his vehicle, a motorbike and motorbike trailer during the incident.

Detectives from the Southern Drugs Investigation Unit executed a search warrant on a premises in Elder Street where they located relevant vehicle documents, a motorbike and trailer, a replica firearm, traffickable quantities of illicit drugs and a commercial quantity of LSD. The man's vehicle was recovered following further inquiries.

The 38-year-old man has been charged with;

  • Deprivation of liberty
  • Extortion
  • Aggravated assault
  • Stealing
  • Armed with an offensive weapon at night
  • Aggravated unlawful entry
  • Possess trafficable quantity of methamphetamine
  • Administer dangerous drug
  • Possess schedule 2 dangerous drug - less than commercial quantity
  • Unlawful use of a motor vehicle (aggravated)

The 34-year-old man has been charged with;

  • Aid/abet - deprivation of liberty
  • Possess commercial quantity of LSD
  • Stealing
  • Unlawful use of a motor vehicle
  • Drive unregistered/uninsured
  • Drive unlicensed.

A 52-year-old woman who is alleged to have been involved in the incident has been charged with;

  • Received stolen property
  • Unlawful use of a motor vehicle
  • Possess trafficable quantity of heroin
  • Possess thin to administer dangerous drug
  • Possess prohibited weapon

All three will appear before the Alice Springs Local Court today.
