Police assaulted during youth disturbance, WA

At about 7:00pm last night, Saturday 3 June 2017, police were advised a large number of youths were congregating near the Madora Bay lookout, Eleanore Drive Madora Bay.

It is alleged the youths were acting disorderly, smashing bottles and were seen with eskies and alcohol. Several police vehicles attended and dispersed the youths., WA Police say

Shortly after 9:00pm, the remaining youths moved on to Catalina Drive and to a house in Cohen Vista in Lakelands. The youths became violent towards police.

A Sergeant from Mandurah Police Station (Response South) was dealing with the youths when he was hit to the back of the head by another youth, rendering him concussed.

A Senior Constable from the Traffic Enforcement Group assisted the officers and was also his to head whilst dealing with the youths.

Police arrested two youths, the remaining youths left the area.

The Sergeant was conveyed to Peel Health Campus by SJA. He sustained serious concussion, soreness to skull and shoulder and remained in hospital under observation. The Senior Constable sustained minor bruising.

A 17 year old boy from Coodanup was charged with Assault Public Officer (x2) and Escape Lawful Custody. He will appear in Mandurah Children’s Court on 19 June 2017.
