Police calling for public assistance to identify rider

Bellerive Police are seeking public assistance to identify the rider of a blue and white trail bike reported riding dangerously at about 5:50pm yesterday.

Police received a report of a motorcycle being ridden dangerously off the Tasman Bridge towards Mornington, with the rider reportedly riding on one wheel and standing on the seat of the bike.

The incident was captured on dash-cam.

Senior Constable Hayden Williams said with 10 motorcyclists having been killed in crashes so far this year, police are pleading with riders to not engage in high-risk, dangerous riding behaviour.

"We need all motorcyclists to ride to the conditions, adhere to the speed limits and wear appropriate safety clothing and equipment whilst riding," he said.

"Impacts of fatal crashes are significant across the community, and this sort of behaviour places all motorists at risk, not just the rider."

Anyone with information about the identity of the rider, or anyone who witnessed this behaviour between Brooker Highway, Tasman Bridge, Tasman Highway and Mornington should contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers at crimestopperstas.com.au
