Police charge 18 in large scale cannabis trafficking operation

Yesterday police charged two further people as part of a significant operation targeting the widespread trafficking of cannabis across southeast Queensland.

Operation Quebec Zing was commenced by the Drug and Serious Crime Group in July 2018 and targeted a syndicate involved in the production and trafficking of cannabis via largescale grow houses and sheds across the southeast.

Over the last 15 months and as a result of protracted investigations by the Firearms and Cannabis Team, six active cannabis grow farms were detected in Greenbank, Marsden, Chambers Flat and Forest Lake. Police seized and subsequently destroyed 2716 cannabis plants valued at over $13.5m and restrained $1.2m worth of property during this operation.

Yesterday, police charged a 42-year-old Inala man with one count of trafficking (with a circumstance of aggravation being participation in a criminal organisation) and six counts of commercial production. Police will allege he was the principal of the operation and had involvement in the six grow operations stretching across 2016-2018.

He will appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court this morning.

Police also charged a 42-year-old Inala woman with one count of commercially produce (with a circumstance of aggravation being participation in a criminal organisation). She has been bailed to appear at a later date.

In total, 18 people have now been charged with 115 offences, including 12 charged with trafficking in dangerous drugs while being participants in a criminal organisation and 33 charges of major production of cannabis.
