Police charge four teens over motel break-in at Bourke

Four teenagers have been charged over a break-in at a Bourke motel overnight.

Just after 1am (Saturday 30 July 2022), a woman was asleep at a motel on Mertin Street, when a person gained access to her room through a bathroom window, opening the door.

Four people – with their faces concealed - allegedly entered the room and stole personal items before attempting to force entry to a second motel room. They were unsuccessful and fled.

Officers from Central North Police District attended and arrested five teenagers hiding in bushland on Anson Street. They were all taken to Bourke Police Station.

Four boys – three aged 15 and a 16-year-old – were charged with aggravated break and enter dwelling in company and steal, aggravated break and enter dwelling in company - intend steal, face blackened/disguised with intent commit indictable offence.

They were refused bail to appear at a children's court tomorrow (Sunday 31 July 2022)

A 14-year-old girl was released pending further investigations.
