Police charge man after aiming laser pointer at PolAir aircraft - Shalvey

A man has been charged after allegedly aiming a laser pointer at a PolAir aircraft in Sydney's west yesterday.

About 8pm (Thursday 23 June 2022), PolAir 7 was flying over Shalvey when a green laser pointer was shone into the fixed-wing aircraft a number of times.

Police will allege the laser beam interfered with the crew – especially the pilot – jeopardising their safety.

A short time later, officers attached to the Public Order and Riot Squad attended a home on Fleetwood Street, Shalvey, where they observed a man standing in the driveway.

Following inquiries, police arrested the 39-year-old man and seized a laser pointer.

He was taken to Mount Druitt Police Station, where he was charged with do act to threaten safety of aircraft/persons on board and possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit.

The man was granted conditional bail to appear at Mount Druitt Local Court on Wednesday 6 July 2022.
