Police charge man after Benalla assault

Police have charged a man following an alleged assault in Benalla last week.

Officers were called to reports a 63-year-old man was lying on Ballintine Street with injuries about 7.10pm on 11 October.

He was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Detectives executed several search warrants in Benalla and two people were arrested on 13 October.

A 19-year-old Benalla man was charged with intentionally cause injury, recklessly cause injury and affray.

He was remanded and will appear at Wangaratta Magistrates' Court today.

A 16-year-old boy was released pending further enquiries.
