Police charge man after Berwick armed robbery

Swift-responding police arrested a man after an alleged armed robbery in Berwick yesterday.

Police were called after a man allegedly entered a pharmacy on O'Shea Rd with a speargun, baton and knife, damaged shop fittings and stole medicine about 1.15pm, before fleeing on foot.

Detectives and uniform members wasted no time in attending a nearby address on Haverbrack Drive and arresting a 30-year-old man, about 1.30pm.

The man was taken into custody without incident.

Spearguns and medicine, allegedly stolen from the pharmacy, were seized

There were no injuries in the alleged offending.

The Berwick man has been charged with armed robbery, possess weapon and various assault offences.

The man is currently in hospital being treated where he remains under police guard.
