A man will face court charged after an alleged hit and run in Sydney's Inner West last year.
About 9:50am on Saturday 25 October 2025, emergency services were called to a business on Norton Street, Leichhardt, following reports of a crash.
On arrival, officers attached to Leichhardt Police Area Command found a customer – a 67-year-old woman – had been allegedly struck by a BMW sedan while sitting outside the business, before it left the scene.
The woman was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, where she underwent surgery for lower body injuries.
Officers commenced patrols of the area, before locating the vehicle on Elswick Street and an unresponsive 34-year-old male driver.
He was treated at the scene, before he was arrested and taken to hospital for mandatory testing, where he was later released pending further inquiries.
A crime scene was established and investigations commenced by the Crash Investigation Unit.
Following extensive inquiries, yesterday (Friday 15 May 2026), the now 35-year-old man was arrested at Auburn Police Station.
He was charged with seven offences being:
- Aggravated dangerous driving occasion grievous bodily harm- influence drug or drugs
- Dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm - drive under the influence
- Negligent driving (occasions grievous bodily harm)
- Cause bodily harm by misconduct, in charge of motor vehicle
- Drive vehicle, illicit drug present in blood etc
- Fail to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing grievous bodily harm
- Fail to stop and assist after impact cause injury
The man was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 7 today (Saturday 16 May 2026).
