Police charge man after Carlton collision

Investigators from Major Collision Investigation Unit and Yarra Crime Investigation Unit have charged a man following a serious collision in Carlton on 11 March.

Emergency services were called after a Volkswagen Passat collided with an Alfa Romeo, which then spun out of control and struck two pedestrians on Lygon Street, just before midday.

One passenger of the Alfa Romeo, a 16-year-old female, was taken to hospital with critical injuries.

Two other occupants of the Alfa Romeo, a 61-year-old man and a 53-year-old woman were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

One pedestrian, a 42-year-old man, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Another pedestrian, a 40-year-old man, was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the Volkswagen, a 40-year-old Essendon man has been charged with:

• Negligently cause serious injury

• Dangerous driving causing serious injury

He will appear at the Melbourne Magistrates' Court today.
