Police Charge Man After Discharging Crossbow At Police

Police have charged a man after a crossbow was allegedly fired at officers in Eltham yesterday afternoon.

Members attended an address in Reynolds Road after reports a man armed with a crossbow was behaving erratically in a residential property about 1.40pm.

Police attempted to contact the man but were unsuccessful.

Officers cordoned off the property and it is alleged the man exited the property from the back door and fired the crossbow at two members.

It's alleged members drew their firearms and shots were fired at the man who retreated inside the property.

The man was not physically injured during the exchange, but he surrendered to police a short time later.

A 26-year-old man from Eltham was interviewed by police.

The Eltham man was charged with multiple offences including reckless conduct endangering life, assault with weapon, assault police and criminal damage.

He will appear at the Heidelberg Magistrates' Court today.

Professional Standards Command have been notified as per normal practice and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
