Police Charge Man After House Fire - Hunter Valley

A man will face court today charged following a fire in the Hunter Valley yesterday afternoon.

About 5.30pm yesterday (Sunday 9 November 2025), emergency services were called to a home on Castlereagh Street, Singleton, following reports of a fire.

At the scene, police were told a 41-year-old man allegedly threw fuel on a 68-year-old man known to him.

The older man ran from the scene and rinsed the fuel from his body. He was not injured.

A short time later, flames were seen coming from the home.

Firefighters attended the scene and extinguished the blaze; however, the house was destroyed. No injuries were reported.

The younger man was arrested and taken to Cessnock Police Station.

During a search of the man, police allegedly located methamphetamine.

He was subsequently charged with throw/lay down etc explosive etc with intent to maim/do grievous bodily harm (DV), damage property by fire/explosion greater than $15000 (DV), and possess prohibited drug

He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 2 today (Monday 10 November 2025).
