Police charge man after Maddingley death

Homicide Squad detectives have charged a 31-year-old man following the death of a motorcyclist in Maddingley on Wednesday night.

The Pentland Hills man was charged this evening with one count of murder.

He appeared before a bailed justice and was remanded in custody to appear at Ballarat Magistrates' Court on Monday.

The charges relate to an incident on Woolpack Road around 7.15pm on 20 May where a motorcyclist was struck by a ute.

The male rider, a 24-year-old Werribee man, died at the scene.

The male driver of the ute, a 36-year-old Dandenong man, stopped a short time later.

He and one of his passengers, a 28-year-old Pentland Hills man, stayed at the scene while the 31-year-old Pentland Hills man allegedly left on foot.

Police believe the parties involved are known to each other.

Detectives from both the Homicide Squad and Major Collision Investigation Unit subsequently attended the scene to investigate the incident.
