Police charge man after malicious damage of trains; weapons seized at Canterbury

A man will face court today on multiple charges following an investigation into the vandalism of trains across Sydney.

Officers attached to Police Transport & Public Safety Command, commenced an investigation into malicious damage of various Sydney trains between November 2019 and March 2020.

Following inquiries, police executed a search warrant at a unit on Broughton Street, Canterbury just before 5pm yesterday (Thursday 12 March 2020).

Officers allegedly located and seized 180 spray cans, along with balaclavas, gloves, and a Sydney Trains safety vest.

Also seized were two expandable batons, capsicum spray, a star knife, an electronic stun device, knuckle dusters, a sling shot, cannabis, prohibited restricted substances and fireworks.

About 6.45pm, a 30-year-old man was arrested after attending the unit.

He was taken to Burwood Police Station where he was charged with ten counts of malicious damage, ten counts of enter running lines/trespass, seven counts of possess prohibited weapon, three counts of possess prohibited drug/prescribed restricted substance, goods in custody, and possess explosive without a permit.

The man was refused bail to appear at Burwood Local Court today (Friday 13 March 2020).
