A man has been charged after another man was allegedly set alight in the Illawarra yesterday.
Emergency services were called to a unit block on Todd Street, Warrawong, following reports of a fire, about 9pm yesterday (Monday 11 May 2026).
Officers attached to Lake Illawarra Police District attended and were told a man allegedly forced entry into the unit and set a 25-year-old man alight, before he ran from the scene.
The man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and residents for serious injuries before being airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital, where he remains in a serious but stable condition.
Police established a crime scene and an investigation commenced.
Following inquiries, about 3.15pm today (Tuesday 12 May 2026), a 32-year-old man was arrested at a home on Scarborough Circuit, in Albion Park.
He was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station where he was charged with throw or lay down explosive with intent maim or do grievous bodily harm.
The man was refused bail to appear at Bail Division Court 3 tomorrow (Wednesday 13 May 2026).
