Police Charge Man After Motorbike Stop - Hunter Valley

A man will face court today charged following a motorbike stop in the Hunter Valley yesterday morning.

About 11.40am (Thursday 15 January 2026), officers from the State Crime Command's Raptor Squad North were patrolling Wollombi Road, Cessnock, when they sighted a motorbike with an allegedly altered numberplate.

Officers stopped the motorbike at the intersection of Barrett Avenue and Mount View Road at Cessnock a short time later.

Following inquiries, officers established that the rider's licence was disqualified, and the motorcycle had allegedly been reported stolen from a home in Morpeth in November 2025.

During a search of the rider, police allegedly located and seized 4g of methamphetamine.

The 49-year-old man was arrested and taken to Cessnock Police Station where he was charged with use class A vehicle displaying misleading etc number-plate, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, and possess prohibited drug.

The man was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 2 today (Friday 16 January 2026).
