A man will face court today charged with stealing two cars and assaulting a police officer in the state's south west.
In the early hours of Wednesday 9 September 2020, a blue Mazda CX-3 was stolen from a home on Marcus Street, Griffith. A number of transactions were allegedly made using a bank card from the vehicle over the following days.
On Wednesday 28 October 2020, a Mitsubishi Triton ute was stolen from a council depot in Griffith. The ute was recovered the next day in nearby bushland.
Both incidents were reported to police and officers from Murrumbidgee Police District commenced inquiries.
Following inquiries, a 27-year-old woman was arrested and charged in relation to the theft of the ute on Friday 30 October 2020. She remains before the courts.
Following further inquiries, police attended a home in Griffith on Friday 6 November 2020, and found a 25-year-old man attempting to exit the home through a window.
As police attempted to arrest the man, he allegedly resisted and punched a male Senior Constable in the face, before resisting a female Senior Constable. Both officers sustained minor injuries as a result and did not require hospital treatment.
The man was arrested and taken Griffith Police Station, where he was charged with dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception, drive conveyance taken without consent of owner (x2), driver motor vehicle while licence suspended (x2), resist officer in execution of duty and assault police officer in execution of duty.
He was refused bail and appeared in Griffith Local Court on Friday 6 November 2020, where he was formally refused bail to appear in Wagga Wagga Local Court today (Monday 9 November 2020).
