Police charge man after officer injured at Sutherland

A man been charged after allegedly injuring a police officer in Sutherland today.

About 3.15pm (Thursday 5 December 2019) officers were called to Ingrid Road, Kareela, following reports a man was standing in his yard and allegedly exposing himself to passers-by.

Following a brief interaction between police and the man, he allegedly exposed himself to a female sergeant attached to Sutherland Shire Police Area Command.

He was arrested for offensive conduct.

While police were attempting to verify his identity, the man allegedly punched a male senior constable in the face, causing a nose bleed.

The 46-year-old man was taken to Sutherland Police Station.

He was charged with assault police occasioning actual bodily harm and offensive conduct.

He was bail refused to appear at Sutherland Local Court tomorrow (Friday 6 December 2019).

The officer was assessed by NSW Ambulance paramedics and resumed his duties.
