A man will face court today charged after an alleged pursuit near Newcastle early this morning.
About 1.45am (Tuesday 22 July 2025), police were patrolling Minmi Road, Edgeworth, when they attempted to stop a vehicle.
When the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.
The pursuit continued along the Hunter Expressway and onto John Renshaw Drive before returning to Minmi and Wallsend where the driver stopped and fled into bushland.
With the assistance of the Dog Unit, a 44-year-old man was arrested a short time later, before being taken to Newcastle Police Station.
There he was charged with police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, and assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm.
He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 2 today (Tuesday 22 July 2025).
