Police charge man after pursuit at Wagga Wagga

A man has been charged following a pursuit in Wagga Wagga yesterday.

About 7am (Wednesday 22 April 2020), officers from Riverina Police District observed a Ford Falcon, with no registration plates, travelling along Cottee Street, Ashmont.

Police followed the vehicle and as they initiated a pursuit, the car drove into Ashmont Park and hit embankment, causing the vehicle to roll onto its roof before coming to a stop.

The passenger, a 33-year-old man, remained with the vehicle. He was taken to Wagga Wagga Hospital with lacerations to his head and a possible shoulder injury.

The driver, a 23-year-old man, fled the scene on foot and, following extensive inquiries, was located about 8.30am on Cottee Street.

He was arrested and taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station, where he was charged with aggravated break and enter dwelling etc in company, larceny, police pursuit, never licensed person drive vehicle on road, use unregistered Class A motor vehicle, possess prohibited drug and fail to comply with requirement of public health order - breach COVID-19 direction.

The man was refused bail and is due to face Wagga Wagga Local Court today (Thursday 23 April 2020).
