Officers from the Fawkner Divisional Response Unit have charged a man following a pursuit of a Nissan in Glenroy on 13 August.
Police responded to reports the Nissan was allegedly driving on the wrong side of the Ring Road about 2.20am, before officers lost sight of the vehicle in the vicinity of the Northern Memorial Park.
The Nissan was located in a dam nearby and with the assistance of the Dog Squad, the man was found hiding in the water and was subsequently bitten by a police dog before being taken into custody.
The 33-year-old Epping man has been charged with multiple offences, including:
- Reckless conduct endanger life
- Dangerous driving whilst being pursued by police
- Fail to stop vehicle on police direction
- Drive at a speed dangerous
- Drive in a manner dangerous
- Drive whilst disqualified
- Learner driver drive vehicle without appropriate supervising driver
- Resist police officer
The man will appear in the Melbourne Magistrates court this afternoon.
A woman, alleged to be a passenger of the Nissan was released whilst detectives make further enquires.
