Police charge man after St Albans Park sexual assault

Detectives from the Sexual Crimes Squad have charged a man in relation to a sexual assault at an aged care facility in St Albans Park yesterday.

Police yesterday conducted a public appeal for information in relation to the incident, where a 90-year-old woman was sexually assaulted at the Aldershot Road facility about 4.45am on 15 August.

A 23-year-old St Albans Park man was arrested shortly after 9am and has been charged with rape, aggravated burglary, recklessly cause serious injury, common law assault and theft.

He has been remanded to appear in Melbourne Magistrates' Court tomorrow.

The incident was investigated by detectives from the Sexual Crimes Squad with assistance from the Geelong Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team, local police and Major Crime Scene Unit.
