Police charge man after stabbing at Lake Illawarra

A man has been charged following a stabbing in the Lake Illawarra area overnight.

About 1.40am (Tuesday 29 August 2023), emergency services were called to a home on Avondale Road, Avondale, following reports a man had been injured.

Officers attached to Lake Illawarra Police District arrived to find a 40-year-old man with a stab wound to his hand.

He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Wollongong Hospital in a stable condition.

Police arrested a 37-year-old man -known to the injured man - at the scene.

He was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station and charged with wound with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The man was refused bail to appear before Wollongong Local Court today.
