Police charge man after Tarneit carjacking

Wyndham Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following an alleged carjacking in Tarneit yesterday.

Investigators allege a 56-year-old man was parked in a Tarneit railway station carpark when a male got into his car on Thursday, 30 December about 9.10am and dragged him out of it.

It's alleged the male assaulted the driver and drove away in the stolen white Toyota Tarago.

Detectives located the abandoned Tarago on Sunnyvale Rise, Truganina about 1:30 pm before quickly locating and arresting the male in the front yard of a Cheviot Drive house.

The victim, from Tarneit, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A 31-year-old man, of no fixed address, has been charged with aggravated carjacking.

He has been remanded in custody and will appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court today.
