Police charge man after taxi carjacking at Albury

A man has been charged after allegedly carjacking a taxi in the state's south.

About 1.50am Sunday (17 November 2019) a taxi was called to a hotel on Young Street, Albury.

Following an argument over directions, the taxi driver and passenger allegedly stepped outside the vehicle.

The passenger allegedly punched the taxi driver before stealing the taxi.

The taxi driver ran from the location and was able to flag down a passing police car.

Officers attached to Murray River Police District commenced an investigation, locating the taxi on Wattletree Road Lavington shortly after.

The taxi driver did not sustain any injuries as a result of the alleged assault.

Following police inquiries, earlier today (Wednesday 20 November 2019) a 47-year-old man was arrested and taken to Albury Police Station.

He was charged with take and drive conveyance without consent and was granted conditional bail to appear before Albury Local Court on 9 December 2019.
