Police Charge Man After Wangaratta Fire

Police have charged a 68-year-old Wangaratta man following a fire at a care facility in Wangaratta on Tuesday.

Family Violence Investigation Unit detectives charged the man with 24 charges including four counts of attempted murder, conduct endangering serious injury and arson.

It is alleged the man entered the facility on Dixon Street with a jerry can and started a fire about 11pm on 1 September.

A staff member and three residents were inside at the time and managed to self-evacuate.

One man was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Police searched the area and arrested the man on Yarrawonga Road about 2.40am.

He is due to appear before the Wangaratta Magistrates' Court later today.
