Police charge man for sexual assault at Sutherland

A man will face court for the alleged sexual assault of a woman he met using an online dating app.

About 3pm on Sunday 17 November 2019, police will allege that a Punchbowl man met a woman he had connected with through an online dating app the day prior (Saturday 16 November 2019).

They travelled in the man's white Toyota Prado to Varney's Bridge at the Royal National Park.

It is alleged the man sexually assaulted the woman at this location before driving her home.

On Wednesday 20 November 2019, the woman attended Blacktown Police Station where she reported the alleged assault.

The matter was referred to detectives at Sutherland Police Area Command who commenced inquiries.

Following an investigation, about 10am today (Friday 20 December 2019), police arrested a 19-year-old on Edgar Street, Condell Park.

He was taken to Bankstown Police Station where he was charged with aggravated sexual assault.

The man was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court tomorrow (Saturday 21 December 2019).
