Police Charge Man Over Affray With Axe - Ermington

A man will face over an alleged affray after an axe was seized in Sydney's north west yesterday.

About 5.15pm yesterday (Friday 15 May 2026), police were called to a supermarket on Victoria Road, Ermington, following reports of a man armed with an axe.

Officers attached to Ryde Police Area Command were told an unknown man approached to a 27-year-old male staff and attempted to assault him with an axe and left the scene on foot.

The male staff was not injured.

A crime scene has been established, and police commenced an investigation into the incident.

Following inquiries, about 6.15pm the same day, police arrested a 59-year-old man on Seamiest Avenue, Ermington before they located and seized an axe nearby.

He was taken to Ryde Hospital for an assessment under police guard.

He was later taken to Gladesville Police Station where he was charged with affray and armed with intent to commit indictable offence.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court via AVL today (Saturday 16 May 2026).
