Police charge man over armed robbery - Belfield

A man will re-appear in court today charged over his alleged role in an armed robbery in Sydney's south west earlier this year.

Just after 12.10am on Friday 11 January 2019, police responded to reports of an armed robbery at a licensed premises on Burwood Road, Belfield.

Two men – armed with firearms – smashed a glass door and entered the pub, before threatening staff and patrons with a firearm.

The men took cash and fled the scene on foot.

A crime scene was established and detectives from the Robbery and Serious Crime Squad commenced investigating the incident under Strike Force Gradger.

Following extensive inquiries, strike force detectives arrested a 22-year-old man at Wellington Police Station yesterday (Tuesday 6 August 2019).

He was charged with robbery whilst armed with a dangerous weapon.

The man was remanded in custody and appeared via AVL before Burwood Local Court yesterday where he was formally refused bail to re-appear at the same court today (Wednesday 7 August 2019).

Investigations under Strike Force Gradger are continuing and police are seeking a second man in relation to the incident.
