Police charge man over assault of teen - Murrumbidgee

A man has been charged over the alleged assault of a teenage boy in the state's Murrumbidgee region earlier this week.

About 11pm on Sunday (30 January 2023), police have been told an 18-year-old man was riding an allegedly unregistered motorbike through the township of Leeton.

The rider was followed by a number of motorists, before his motorbike and a vehicle collided on Wamoon Avenue.

The rider was approached by several members of the public – including the driver – before one man allegedly approached the rider from behind and struck him in the head with a shovel, causing him to fall to the ground.

The rider was wearing a helmet and was not seriously injured.

Officers attached to Murrumbidgee Police District were notified and commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, a 42-year-old man attended Leeton Police station about 4.45pm on Monday (31 January 2023), where he was charged with one count of common assault.

The man was granted conditional bail to appear in Leeton Local Court on Tuesday 14 February 2023.
