Police charge man over break-in - Murrumbidgee

A man has been charged over an alleged break-in at a jewellery store in the state's Murrumbidgee region last month.

About 4.15am on Monday 5 December 2022, a jewellery store on Pine Avenue, Leeton, was allegedly broken into, with several jewellery items stolen.

Officers attached to Murrumbidgee Police District were notified and commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, police from the Murrumbidgee Proactive Crime Team and Leeton Police executed a search warrant at a home on Golf Drive, Leeton, about 7.30am today (Friday 27 January 2023).

During a search, police located and seized cannabis, cannabis seeds, a shortened .22 calibre rifle and ammunition, as well as items consistent with the alleged break in.

A 39-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to taken to Leeton Police Station where he was charged with

  • Possess prohibited drug
  • Cultivate prohibited plant
  • Goods in custody suspected of being stolen
  • Possess Prohibited firearm
  • Possess restricted substance (steroids).

He was refused bail to appear in Griffith Bail Court tomorrow (Saturday 28 January 2023).
