Police charge man over deliberately lit house fire at Albury

A man will appear in court today charged with deliberately lighting a house on fire in the state's south.

About 6.30pm on Wednesday (12 August 2020), emergency services were called to a home on Kiama Street, in the Albury suburb of Springdale Heights, following reports of a fire.

Fire and Rescue NSW attended and extinguished the blaze, which destroyed the home.

No one was home at the time and no injuries have been reported.

Officers attached to Murray River Police District commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fire.

Following inquiries, a 48-year-old man was arrested on Griffith Road, Lavington, about 11.30am yesterday (Thursday 13 August 2020).

He was taken to Albury Police Station and charged threaten to destroy or damage another person's property and damage property by fire.

Police will allege in court that the house fire was deliberately lit.

The man was refused bail to appear at Albury Local Court today (Friday 14 August 2020).
