Police charge man over evade incident in Launceston

A 19 year old Launceston man has been charged over an evade incident in the early hours of this morning, which resulted in a police vehicle being hit.

No one was injured during the incident, which occurred after police attempted to intercept a vehicle for alleged speeding offences in Normanstone St, South Launceston about 4.30am today.

The driver of the vehicle, allegedly evaded police before suddenly stopping the vehicle in Wentworth St, Newstead, and colliding with an unmarked police vehicle, causing minor damage.

He was arrested at the scene and been charged with evade police, dangerous driving, motor vehicle stealing and possessing a firearm (taser).

The man will appear in an out of hours hearing in the Launceston Magistrates Court this evening.
