Police charge man over fatal crash near Inverell

Police have charged a man following a fatal crash in the state' north on the weekend.

Shortly after 5pm yesterday (Saturday 30 September 2023), emergency services were called to Bingara Road, Bundarra, about 45km south of Inverell, after reports of a two-vehicle crash.

Officers attached to New England Police District arrived to find a Mazda BT-50 utility and Toyota Hilux utility had crashed.

The Toyota driver, a 27-year-old man, and his 28-year-old female passenger were treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics; however, the man died at the scene.

The woman was taken to Tamworth Base Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The Mazda driver, a 27-year-old man, and two passengers were treated at the scene for minor injuries and taken by paramedics to Bingara Hospital in a stable condition.

Both vehicles were seized for forensic examination.

Police established a crime scene which was examined by specialist officers from the Crash Investigation Unit.

Following inquiries, police arrested a 27-year-old man at Armidale Police Station yesterday (Sunday 1 October 2023).

He has been charged with dangerous driving occasioning death and his licence was suspended.

The man is due to appear before Armidale Local Court on Monday 13 November 2023.
