Police charge man over fatal stabbing at Wellington

A man has been charged as part of an ongoing investigation into a fatal stabbing south east of Dubbo yesterday.

About 7am (Sunday 3 January 2021), emergency services were called to William Street, Wellington, following reports of a physical altercation involving several people outside a home.

Shortly after, a 24-year-old man presented at Wellington Hospital with stab wounds to his stomach and neck.

He was transferred to Dubbo Hospital, where he died soon after.

Officers from Orana Mid-Western Police District established crime scenes and formed Strike Force Larelar to investigate the circumstances surrounding the man's death.

A 19-year-old man was found near the scene with facial injuries and taken to Dubbo Hospital for treatment.

Upon release from hospital, he was arrested and taken to Dubbo Police Station, where he was charged with armed with intent to commit indictable offence, affray and stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm (domestic).

The man was refused bail and appeared before Dubbo Local Court today (Monday 4 January 2021), where he was formally refused bail to reappear before the same court on Monday 11 January 2021.
