In September 2019, detectives from Lake Illawarra Police District commenced an investigation after receiving information in relation to an alleged historical sexual assault of a child.

As part of inquiries, detectives received further separate reports of child sexual offences involving three boys and a girl.

Following extensive inquiries, detectives arrested a 70-year-old man at a correctional centre at Silverwater about 10.15am today (Monday 22 November 2021).

He was charged with five counts of indecent assault on male under 14, procure indecent act with male, and two counts of assault female and commit act of indecency aged under 16.

Police will allege in court that the man sexually abused the boys and girl while on sporting club camping trips at Berkley, Childowla, Lake Illawarra and Wyangala Dam in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

He was refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court today (Tuesday 23 November 2021).
