In February 2019, officers from Lake Illawarra Police District established Strike Force Bestic to investigate reports a woman had been sexually assaulted as a child by a man who was known to her.

Following extensive inquiries, investigators executed a search warrant at a home in Warilla just before 7am yesterday (Wednesday 1 April 2020).

A 60-year-old man was arrested and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station, where he was charged with six counts of sexual intercourse with person under the age of 10 years, two counts of sexual intercourse with person aged between 10-16 and two counts of aggravated indecent assault.
