Police charge man over shopping centre break-in at Shellharbour

A man will appear in court today charged over the alleged break-in of a shopping centre at Shellharbour earlier this month.

About 5.30am on Sunday 6 March 2021, two men forced entry to a shopping centre on Shellharbour Rd, Warilla, and once inside, broke into a jewellery store.

The pair stole 44 watches - valued in excess of $20,000 - before fleeing.

Officers from Lake Illawarra Police District were notified and commenced an investigation.

Following inquires, police attended a home on Avondale Road, Avondale, about 8.30am today (Tuesday 15 March 2021), and arrested a 28-year-old man in the garage.

He was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station and charged with seven counts of larceny, aggravated break and enter dwelling in company – steal, and break and enter dwelling house with intent (steal).

Police will allege in court that the man stole liquor and other items from stores at a Dapto shopping centre on seven separate occasions between Wednesday 2 and Sunday (13 March 2022).

Two outstanding warrants were also executed.

The man was refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court today (Wednesday 16 March 2022).

Inquiries continue.
