Police charge man over ticket fraud at Lake Illawarra

A man will appear in court tomorrow after an investigation into an alleged fraudulent ticket scheme.

In April 2019, police were told that a number of people transferred money into an account after purchasing what they believed to be music festival tickets.

Police were notified after the purchasers did not receive their tickets.

From May to November 2019, a further eleven people reported similar ticket fraud incidents to the Lake Illawarra Police District.

The Lake Illawarra Anti-Theft and Tech Units commenced an investigation.

Following extensive inquiries, at 2pm today (Friday 22 November 2019), officers attended a unit on Denise Street in Lake Heights and arrested a 19-year-old man.

He was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station where he was charged with 18 counts of dishonestly obtain funds by deception and possess prohibited drugs.

The man was refused bail to appear in Wollongong Local Court tomorrow (Saturday 23rd November 2019).
