Police charge man with Assault

Police have charged a man following a serious assault in Launceston yesterday.

At around midday yesterday a Launceston business owner was assaulted in his workplace. The assault was committed by a man who used a fire extinguisher during the assault. The offender fled the scene.

The victim was taken to the Launceston General Hospital where he is in a stable condition with a number of bone fractures.

A 25-year-old man of no fixed place of abode was arrested by police at Royal Park, Launceston, today. The man has been charged with assault under the Criminal Code Act, 1924. He was detained to appear in an after hours sitting of the Launceston Magistrates Court at 8pm tonight.

Police would like to thank witnesses at the scene for providing care to the victim.
