Police charge man with drug offences at Wagga Wagga

A man has been charged with drug offences following an investigation in the state's Riverina.

About 8.30pm on Saturday 7 January 2023, officers attached to Riverina Police District stopped a vehicle on Lae Avenue, Ashmont, for random testing.

It will be alleged the driver – a woman aged 35 – returned a positive roadside drug test.

Checks revealed the passenger – a 41-year-old man – was subject to a Firearms Prohibition Order.

A search of the vehicle allegedly uncovered prescription medication and more than 50g of methamphetamine.

Both were arrested and taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station where they released pending further inquiries.

Police seized the vehicle and electronic devices, and located additional prohibited drugs allegedly concealed inside the vehicle.

Following inquiries, police arrested the man on Lae Avenue, Ashmont, about 10am yesterday (Monday 13 February 2023).

Police then executed a Firearms Prohibition Order search at a home on Poulton Street, Ashmont, where they seized cannabis, steroids and a flick knife.

The man was taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station where he was charged with,

  • Supply prohibited drug,
  • Possess prohibited drug (three counts),
  • Possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit, and,
  • Use prohibited weapon contrary to prohibition order.

He was refused bail to appear in Wagga Wagga Local Court today (Tuesday 14 February 2023).
