Police charge man with firearm, drug and arson offences in Sydney's west

Police have charged a man with firearm, drug and arson offences following two search warrants yesterday, which resulted in firearms, drugs and over $20,000 cash being seized.

In September 2021, detectives from Auburn Police Area Command commenced investigations into the supply of prohibited drugs around Sydney Olympic Park.

The investigations formed part of Operation Trident, targeting mid-level organised crime groups within the South West Metropolitan Region.

Following inquiries, about 12.30pm yesterday (Monday 15 November 2021), police executed a search warrant at a unit on Anslem Street, Strathfield South.

During the search, police allegedly located several items including two firearms, ammunition, drugs, and almost $20,000 cash.

A 37-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Auburn Police Station.

About 9.35pm (Monday 15 November 2021), police executed a second search warrant at a unit on Figtree Drive, Sydney Olympic Park, where they allegedly located almost $1,500 cash.

All items were seized for forensic examination.

The man was charged with two counts of supply prohibited drug, two counts of possess unregistered firearm, possess prohibited drug, deal with proceeds of crime, possess ammunition without holding a licence/permit, and two counts of not keep firearm safely.

He was also charged with damage to property over his alleged involvement in a suspicious car fire at Chipping Norton on Sunday 4 April 2021.

He was refused bail and is due to appear at Burwood Local Court today (Tuesday 16 November 2021).
