Police Charge Man With Firearm Offences Near Walgett

A man has been charged with firearm offences in Central West NSW.

About 10am yesterday (Tuesday 31 March 2026), Central North Police District investigators executed search warrants at properties on Gundabloui Road and the Gwydir Highway, Collarenebri - 70km north of Walgett - with assistance from tactical police, the Dog Unit, and Police Rescue.

At the Gundabloui Road address, police seized a home-made firearm, and various types of ammunition.

Officers arrested a 32-year-old man at the scene.

He was taken to Walgett Police Station and charged with possess unregistered firearm-prohibited firearm, possess ammunition w/o holding licence/permit/authority and not keep firearm safely-not pistol/prohibited firearm.

The man was refused bail to appear at Bail Division – Court 4 today (Wednesday 1 April 2026).
