Police charge man with firearm offences near Tamworth

A man has been charged with alleged firearm offences near Tamworth yesterday.

About 10.30am (Saturday 24 April 2021), officers from Oxley Police District were called to Appleby Lane, Appleby, about 20km north west of Tamworth, following reports a man was armed with a firearm outside his property.

Police were told the man pointed a rifle at volunteer fire crews who were conducting controlled burns in the area.

There were no reports of any injuries.

Officers spoke to the 41-year-old man before locating three firearms and ammunition in a vehicle on the property. They were seized and the man was arrested.

He was taken to Tamworth Police Station and charged with 13 offences including use offensive weapon with intent to commit indictable offence, carry firearm manner likely injure person/property, three counts of not keep firearm safely-not prohibited firearm and eight counts of common assault.

The Appleby man was refused bail to appear at Tamworth Local Court today (Sunday 25 April 2021), where he was formally refused bail to reappear at the same court tomorrow (Monday 26 April 2021).
