Police charge man with intent to murder - Merrylands

A man will face court charged with intent to murder after another man was stabbed in Sydney's west yesterday.

About 3.50pm (Friday 9 July 2021), a 43-year-old man was standing in Railway Terrace, Merrylands, when he was approached by another man and stabbed several times.

The man then ran away, while the injured man was assisted at a nearby medical centre.

Police were alerted and officers from Cumberland Police Area Command established a crime scene.

Following inquiries, a 26-year-old man was arrested at a house in Carhullen Street, Merrylands, at about 7.50pm.

He was taken to Granville Police Station and charged with cause wounding/grievous bodily harm to person with intent to murder, and contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (domestic).

The man was refused bail and will appear at Parramatta Local Court today (Saturday 10 July 2021).

The injured man was taken to Westmead Hospital where he's reported to be in a serious condition.
