Police charge man with multiple offences after four-hour operation at Katoomba

A man has been charged with multiple domestic violence and assault offences following a police operation at Katoomba yesterday.

About 10am (Tuesday 19 January 2021), emergency services were called to a home on Lurline Street following reports of a concern for welfare.

Police have been told a 41-year-old woman at the property had been threatened by a 44-year-old man, who was known to her, before she fled the home.

Police will allege the man was armed with a hatchet at the time.

Officers from the Blue Mountains Police Area Command, assisted by the Tactical Operations Unit, Negotiators and the Dog Unit, commenced an operation and began negotiations with a man still inside the property.

The woman was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics at the scene before being transferred to Katoomba Hospital with minor injuries.

About 1.50pm, officers from the Tactical Operations Unit entered the home and arrested the man without incident.

He taken to Katoomba Police Station where he was charged with take/detain person with intent to obtain advantage cause actual bodily harm, assault occasioning actual bodily harm (DV), choke etc person intend to commit indictable offence and assault officer in execution of duty (DV).

He was refused bail and is due to appear at Penrith Local Court today (Wednesday 20 January 2021).
